Preocupación ambiental y la relación con la naturaleza, un proceso interactivo en los adolescentes

La sociedad actual enfrenta una pérdida diaria de biodiversidad, que se incrementará ante el cambio climático y la contaminación ambiental. Este es un problema particularmente grave en los llamados puntos calientes (hotspots) de la biodiversidad, como las zonas urbanas y rurales de las ciudades en donde el comportamiento humano para con la naturaleza aun es diferenciable, desempeñando un papel crucial en el ambientalismo y conservación de la biodiversidad. Se identificó la estructura factorial predictiva subyacente y las variables que lo relacionan, según la opinión de los adolescentes de la provincia del Cañar, Ecuador. Se desarrolló un estudio descriptivo de campo mediante la aplicación de una encuesta desarrollada por Schultz (2001), basada en la Escala de Preocupación Ambiental, Relación con la Naturaleza y Valores de Retrato, a 1086 estudiantes de secundaria de la zona urbana y 226 estudiantes de la zona rural. En ambas muestras, el grupo de valores de auto-trascendencia y el tiempo que pasa en contacto con la naturaleza constituyen predictores positivos para la preocupación ambiental.
