A UNACH study with data from 2016 identified four critical intersections in the city of Riobamba. New intersections were identified applying the same method of such study with data from 2017 and 2018. Using data from the year 2019, the Mobility Plan of Riobamba's consulting company identified other intersections different from those mentioned above. Considering that no modifications have been made to the intersections' conditions during the indicated period, there is an inconsistency in the results obtained with a standard method. Since there is no pattern in the occurrence of accidents, setting apparent randomness of these events. The research's objective was to analyze the methodology and the results of accidents in Riobamba, obtained from 2016 to 2019, to establish the origin of the inconsistencies detected. With that purpose, statistical analysis was applied to data series. It was found that the method applied does not correlate with the conditions of the site or with other factors that could be favoring their occurrence. Regulators and traffic consultants should consider this information to apply methods that include the complexity of vehicular traffic accidents.
